Thomas Dorfmann Estate

BEST LOCATION
GREAT WINES

Thomas Dorfmann has fulfilled his dream. Since 2018 he has run full-time the winery that he ran for many years on a part-time basis. From tending the vines and vinification through to sale of the wines, the entire business is now in his hands. Extensive experience as cellar master and the fortune to have inherited excellent vineyard sites from his parents provided excellent basic preconditions.

The vineyards, all steep sites with gradients of between 40 and 70%, are perfectly south-facing and lie between 550 and 650 m above sea level in Untrum, the southernmost part of the municipality of Velturno/Feldthurns, one of the sunniest locations in the Isarco/Eisack Valley.

The steep terraced vineyards retained by solid natural stonewalls, just 2 hectares in total on shallow, gravelly, permeable diorite– weathered soils, create superb wines.

Eisacktal

WINES FROM
THE MOUNTAINS

Framed by the peaks of the Dolomites and the Sarntal Alps, the Isarco/Eisack valley, the northernmost wine-growing region in South Tyrol, produces wine with unique characteristics.

The valley, which is open to the south, enjoys a Mediterranean climate yet due to the altitude and proximity to the main Alpine ridge, continental influences prevail, which in combination with the soil conditions form an incomparable terroir.

This is reflected in the wines: crispness, intense fruit, elegance, minerality, robust acidity and a balanced body.

Of course white wines predominate in Thomas Dorfmann’s vineyards: Sylvaner, Grüner Veltliner, Gewürztraminer and Riesling. Only a small part, the slope with the smallest terraces, is planted with Pinot Noir.
